It was a morning well-spent with medical students, residents, faculty members and alumni, listening to speaker Dr. Vietrez David-Abella, UPCM Class 1991, share her inspiring story during the first ever DE-TALKS session held last April 12, 2016 at the Buenafe Auditorium, Calderon Hall, UP College of Medicine.

Vey was born and raised in Metro Manila, but after finishing her surgical residency at the National Kidney & Transplant Institute, chose to practice in Virac, Catanduanes. She bravely rose up to the challenge of establishing her practice in a province she has not heard of. She is a dedicated wife and mother, a multi-awarded general surgeon, a prolific writer, and a well-respected community leader.

Based on the active participation of the medical students during the Q & A which followed her talk, we are sure many of them were enlightened about the challenges and fulfillment of provincial practice. As she herself said, “Out of the 7000+ islands in the Philippines, there’s bound to be one for you.”
